The Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum’s first summer Centennial Presentation of 2026 is centered around boathouses and their owners. At first, only the highly visible cement boathouses came to mind, but as I researched, I realized that many more wooden boathouses are tucked back behind cottages and in channels. Boathouses started out as very utilitarian structures solely for storing boats in the summer. In the last several years, boathouses have been expanded and remodeled into living quarters. Join us on Saturday, July 11 th at 10:30 in the Syracuse Community Center gym to discover “Boathouses – Hidden Treasures of Wawasee.”
