Historical People from 1801-1900
Many things happened in this time frame that allowed the establishment of Syracuse and its surronding lakes to be a prime vacation destination. Industry. Railways. Key people adapted this area as their home, or home away from home, but they and their families fell in love with the lakes. Below are some of those people that we need to be grateful for.
…these people all had these things in common
They were industrialists, inventors, manufacturers, buisnessmen and women, machinists, boat enthusiasts, really, anyone that enjoyed the water and the fresh air and had the desire to get out of the big cities.
The Industrial Revolution…
Industry helped fuel the need for people to recreate, to get away from the grind and to be able to enjoy nature and our lakes.
Railroads
Starting in 1830, the railroads fast became the way to transport people and products, and when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad came to Syracuse in 1874, the area exploded.
Love for this Area
Whether you or your great-great grandparents came and settled here, purchased land and put up a summer cottage, big or small, we all did it for the same reasons – the natural beauty, an early summer sunrise, a moonlight boat ride or even the sound of the lake making ice in the dead of winter. We appreciate the location and the atmosphere of this great place.
People, Our People.
